Let’s start a school.
Let’s start a school where the teachers want to work. I have worked in a great school, I have worked in a good school as it slowly slid into being a terrible school. I have seen teachers terrified to go into their own classrooms because the children in the classrooms are so threatening and violent. I have seen teachers give up a month before the end of the term and start watching videos.
I want to make a school where the teachers want to come to work. Teachers should want to share their subject with children, but we should also want to learn how to improve what we do. We should be watching each other to see how to do things. We need to see how other people do it.
Let’s start a school where the children can learn. Let’s start a school where the children are taught that learning is its own reward. A school where the children come ready to learn.
Let’s start a school where the children are kind to each other.
Let’s start a school where there is consistency across the school. A school where we have orderliness in order to allow teaching and learning.
And let’s see if we can cut out the nonsense. I don’t want to sit in a meeting for a hour after school everyday to have someone read a powerpoint that should have been an email to me. I don’t want to have to listen to a parent tell me that their thug of a kid is lovely really.
And let’s pay the teachers properly.
Can we do this?
